Today I am going to talk to you about a coping skill that has really helped me through the years.
Lately, due to my back injury, my anxiety and depression have been worse than usual. Trying to keep them at bay has been a challenge and I have relied a lot on my friends and family for balance and reassurance. Trying to find reassurance in myself at this time is an obstacle in itself, but believing it from others is another.
In my vocal classes in high school, my instructor would have us participate in a warm-up breathing exercise that would release all of the tension in our body and allow us to relax. I have walked through this exercise when my friends are struggling and when I am myself. It’s very simple, let’s try it.
Breathe in for four seconds
1-2-3-4
Hold your breath for four seconds
1-2-3-4
Exhale for four seconds
1-2-3-4
Hold your breath again for four seconds
1-2-3-4
You can do this for a longer or shorter amount of time depending on your capability.
Today’s Song of the Day is “North” by Sleeping at Last. This song has the power to make me feel and address my emotions and thoughts. It is a good song to cry to if need be. This piece also serves as an aid for sleeping, having a very smooth and somewhat calming melody.
I hope you all have a nice day:)
Remember,
Just Keep Breathing. Xx.
